Developer - Baseball Systems - Milwaukee Brewers (Milwaukee, WI)

The Milwaukee Brewers are currently seeking a full-time Developer for Baseball Systems. This individual will collaborate with the Baseball Research & Development team and will assist in the expansion and maintenance of an aggregated player information and reporting system. This position requires strong software development skills and experience as well as a demonstrated ability for independent thought and working within a team framework.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for design and development of user interfaces/experiences and fast and efficient back-end systems for all new and existing Baseball Operations department systems.
  • Assist in creating additional application content and visualizations for organizational share, especially for mobile environments.
  • Create necessary data structure to facilitate user-friendly analytical research to be conducted within the Brewers player information/reporting system and additional external applications.
  • Identify, diagnose and resolve data quality issues.

  • Experience with software development, including requirements definition, design, development, testing, implementation, and iterative improvement. Experience in Agile teams, particularly Scrum, is a plus.
  • Proficiency with web development technologies (including C#, Angular, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and JavaScript frameworks). Strong understanding of desktop, laptop and mobile UI/UX design concepts and demonstrated ability to apply responsive design techniques. Particularly focused on representing large data sets in easy to consume user interfaces.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL (database management and optimization techniques a plus).
  • Working familiarity with advanced statistical concepts, particularly those relevant to sabermetric player evaluation techniques including experience implementing statistical calculations, derivations, and graphical representations into software applications (experience with R and Mathematica a plus).

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field from four-year college or university; and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

To perform the job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and Internet Explorer.    

Work Hours

  • Work closely with the Manager of Corporate Partnership Analytics to determine the most impactful prospective research initiatives.
  • Perform data collection and input on behalf of the Corporate Partnerships department.  Data will include sponsorship contract, revenue, and expense details.  Much of this data will need to be cleansed, transformed, or otherwise reformatted.
  • Use information included in third-party databases to provide analytical support for sales presentations.

  • Repairing all Tickets.com system-related peripheral equipment.
  • Performing preventive maintenance and repair, as needed on all equipment such as thermal ticket printers, computers, monitors, terminal servers, handheld ticket scanners, Cisco routers, and networking and data communications gear. 
  • Troubleshooting repair problems via telephone.  Site visits can be reduced by effectively troubleshooting over the telephone.
  • Making regularly scheduled preventive maintenance visits to all assigned client and ticket center locations.
  • Continually improving your understanding of current technical issues, devices and technologies associated with Tickets.com systems.  Ensuring an understanding of Tickets.com system wiring, connectivity and methods for utilizing device indicators to assist in troubleshooting.
  •  Providing support and training for all outlets.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Be Responsible For:

  • Responsible for event creation, maintenance, report creation and execution in ticketing system.
  • Manage multiple projects, including but not limited to season ticket renewal, season ticket printing, invoicing, and single ticket on-sale events.
  • Act as a liaison to a host of Tickets.com departments, including call centers, web operations and IVR operations.
  • Work with various departments in rollout of new products for clients.
  • Exercises independent thought and judgment when dealing with client and user requests and resolution of issues.
  • Consults with users and provides intellectual information regarding the ProVenue application.
  • Performs systems tests, analysis, and configuration to ensure system is in excellent running order.
  • Proactively review and share details of product enhancements and release notes with the client, drawing upon specific, relevant use cases.
  • Assist client in operating the ticketing system including initial training and ongoing support for box office, accounting staff, and management.
  • Provide client support while events are on sale and at performance times.
  • Advise client on how to best use ticketing system to meet their business needs.

Nice To Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Box office experience preferred.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Design, code, and test medium to large software modules
  • Own short term planning of IT projects and programs, creating the requirements analysis, functional design, and detailed technical design specifications as they relate to the implementation of a software module
  • Participate in the development of larger modules which may also include collaboratively authoring requirements analysis, architectural designs, or detailed design tasks under the direction of a more experienced engineer

Position Requirements:
