IT Internship (2015 Season) - Indians Sportservice/Cleveland Indians (Cleveland, OH)

Position Summary

Assists with POS, computer and general equipment technical problems throughout the ballpark by using troubleshooting and problem solving techniques. This is a part-time, seasonal position working regularly during the baseball season making sure that concession stands and other locations are able to remain operational and service our fans in attendance. This position requires a flexible schedule, working nights, weekends and holidays.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain an understanding of POS systems and how to resolve technical and mechanical issues.
  • Respond to technical support related emails and phone calls, escalating more complex issues to IT Manager
  • Troubleshoot errors on location quickly and independently.
  • Install, configure, and support: desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and miscellaneous devices
  • Assist in the management of asset inventory
  • Assist in developing and maintaining solutions in knowledge based systems
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • College level coursework or practical Information Technology experience preferred.
  • Experience installing and troubleshooting desktop and laptop hardware.
  • Previous experience supporting call center environments and social media experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work extended days and hours, including evenings and weekends, based on schedule needs.
  • Ability to stand or walk for an entire shift.
  • Ability to lift or carry items up to 50 lbs.
  • May be exposed to variable temperatures, including extreme hot and cold, depending on season.

Position Summary

Assists in all pre/post event back of house duties. Assists in operation of assigned concessions outlets, supervises concessions associates and non-profit volunteers (if applicable), in accordance with the Company’s GuestPath Universal Service Standards and applicable Operational Standards. 

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in coordinating activities of concession associates on a per shift basis, including enforcing work procedures and service standards
  • Observes, evaluates, and documents job performance of stand attendants, stand leaders, and assists with stand personnel performance.
  • Assists in auditing pre/post event data.
  • Data entry.
  • Inspects all stands and portables in assigned area.
  • Ensures that all equipment is set up properly and operating efficiently and accurately.
  • Ensures all stands, portable carts and surrounding areas remain clean, sanitized, and safe
  • Analyzes and resolves all problems with associates, guests, and the operation with the assistance of management.
  • Investigates “over and shorts” with stand leaders and volunteer groups.
  • Estimates, requests, and inspects supplies and inventory.
  • Ensures accuracy of all deliveries
  • Adheres to and enforces inventory and labor control measures
  • Performs opening and closing procedures for assigned area
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Non-essential Functions:

  • Assists concession associates in serving guests as business levels demand
  • Assists management in performing inventory counts

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of one year experience in foodservice position; previous experience as a stand attendant or stand manager preferred.
  • Hospitality or Business Management Degree Preferred
  • Previous cash handling/cashier experience required.
  • Previous experience with Excel or similar database management computer system required
  • High school education or GED required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent guest service skills; ability to adhere to GuestPath’s Universal Service Standards
  • Ability to complete required pre-employment sanitation and alcohol service training
  • Knowledgeable in operating food service equipment, basic food preparatory techniques, sanitation and safety issues.
  • Basic math skills; ability to accurately account for cash and inventory.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills – ability to communicate with staff and to prepare written stand reports after each event.

The Oakland Athletics Minor League system has one (1) seasonal part time Athletic Trainer internship position available.  The available position will be located in Mesa, AZ working alongside the Certified Athletic Trainers for Spring Training and the Arizona Summer League team.  This position will begin on or around April 15, 2015 and end on or around August 31, 2015.

1. Statistical modeling and quantitative analysis of a variety of data sources, for the purpose of player evaluation, strategic decision-making, decision analysis, etc.

3. Ad hoc queries and quantitative research in support of general Baseball Operations tasks

Qualifications:

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred.

Summary:

The Nationals Youth Baseball Academy is a 501(c)3 organization that uses the sports of baseball and softball to foster character development, academic achievement and improved health among youth from underserved communities in Washington DC. The Academy seeks a dedicated intern to assist with the continued build out of its development operations.

The right candidate will have an interest in advancement, non-profit management, project design and proposal / grant writing, and prospect research, outreach and communications. As the Academy is a relatively new venture, so too are the development operations of the Academy -- the intern will be part of a team putting together new systems, processes and policies that enhance the ability of the Academy to communicate its story to potential supporters and secure resources in support of its mission.

Specific tasks associated with the role will be:
• Maintenance of a prospect management database, including tracking outreach / communication to existing and potential funders.
• Prospect research, including use of a robust research tool to help identify new sources of support; design and execute strategies to introduce the work of the Academy to these funders.
• Generating letters, newsletters, updates, etc for supporter audiences and assist with distribution of those communication to key audiences.

Students should meet the following eligibility requirements:
• Currently enrolled as an under graduate or graduate student of an accredited college or university and have completed a minimum of 1 semester or have graduated from an accredited college or university within the last 6 months.
• Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• Successfully pass a Background Investigation.
• Available for the entire term of the Internship.

Physical/Environmental Requirements: Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work, or some setup or breakdown of events themselves.

More About the Academy: Children in many parts of Washington, D.C. face academic and social challenges that profoundly hinder their development and minimize their potential to succeed. Poverty, low academic achievement, poor health, obesity, exposure to anti-social influences and a lack of exposure to perspectives and influences outside of their immediate neighborhoods all combine to limit their opportunities. The challenges they face are complex, systemic and intertwined – but the effects of those challenges for children in neighborhoods east of the Anacostia River are stark:

• Less than 30% of elementary school students achieve passable test scores in math and reading.
• More than 40% of young people under the age of 18 in DC’s Ward’s 7 & 8 are obese and access to healthy eating options is severely limited for all children and families.
• Nearly 60% of students drop out of high school before graduation, mostly before the tenth grade.

The Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy (Academy) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was developed to address these challenges head-on. The mission of the Academy is to use baseball and softball as vehicles to foster positive character development, academic achievement, and improved health among youth from at-risk communities in Washington, D.C.

Operating out of a state of the art, nine-acre education and recreation campus in Ward 7’s Fort Dupont Park, the Academy offers an enduring environment for children to receive high quality, holistic youth development programming. The facility at the Academy features an 18,000 sq. ft. education center complete with 7 classrooms, a full teaching kitchen, and multi-purpose training/education space, as well as grounds that include 3 baseball/softball diamonds and a teaching garden.

Internships: Marketing
Intern Promotions & Events (April 2015 - October 2015 - Washington Nationals Baseball Club, LLC (Washington, DC)

Summary:

The intern position is an integral part of the Promotions & Special Events department, as the individual to fill this role will be exposed to and relied upon to assist with a variety of marketing initiatives to include: Jr. Nationals Kids Club, Promotional Giveaways, MLB All-Star Balloting, Fan Appreciation, On-Field Photo Day and numerous theme nights.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in all promotional activities related to home games
  • Assist with organization and maintenance of promotional inventory for the Marketing dept
  • Assisting in the distribution of promotional items on game days
  • Assisting with the youth marketing initiatives including Jr. Nationals Kids Club and Kids Run The Bases.  Must be present for Sunday home games.
  • Serve as a liaison to fans at the Jr. Nationals Kids Club table on Sunday home games
  • Assist in the procurement of tickets, credentials and parking for game-day requests
  • Assist in the Major League Baseball All-Star balloting process
  • Attending and assisting club sponsored and off-site marketing events
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager, Promotions & Special Events

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled as a under graduate or graduate student of an accredited College or University and  have completed 1 semester, or a recent graduate within the last 6 months.
  • Minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Be available for the entire length of the Internship Program.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

Office: Working conditions are normal for an office environment.  Work will require attendance at all Nationals home games, and may require physical tasks outdoors.
