Internship- Facilities Management - Houston Astros (Houston, TX)

The Houston Astros Internships are intended for individuals with a strong desire to gain real-world work experience, as well as a desire to work hard and give their best. Learning potential is endless in these positions and interns get out of the experience what they put into it. While primarily intended as an educational experience, these internships are paid.

The Facilities Management intern will gain knowledge in an array of tasks which include hands-on engineering and stadium operations duties as well as office and clerical work. The selected individual will learn how to work with contractors - place orders, meet the contractors on the job site, and help us manage all aspects of maintaining the Astros facilities. This intern may assist the engineering crew while they perform various tasks around the ballpark - fix motors, reassemble gears, check piping, and take apart and put together all types of machinery. This intern should have an interest in engineering techniques and be proficient in Excel. The selected individual will hone their customer service skills on a daily basis and help us satisfy our client needs within the conference center in a professional manner. The intern will also learn to manage Audio/Visual equipment for the clients (which may include laptops, projectors, mixing boards, etc.) and help us with set ups for press conferences. Recommended majors include engineering, sports management, and A/V. Proficiency in Excel and Word is required. Knowledge of AutoCad is a plus.

The Media Strategy/Marketing intern will learn all facets of marketing to include special events and media/advertising efforts (multicultural and other initiatives). The intern will help support our marketing and outreach efforts in various ways, including media planning, market research, copy writing and pre-game support. The intern will assume additional roles on an as-needed basis. This intern must act as a professional at all times and be able to work all games (which may include day, night, weekend and holiday games). Must have both excellent written and oral communication skills and be proficient in Excel and Word. Fluency in Spanish is a major plus. Majors for this internship position may include Marketing, Sports Management, Communication or Spanish.

***Sponsorship*** The Corporate Sponsorship intern will work extensively with the execution and fulfillment of current sponsors' contracts. Pre-game and in-game activation elements require that he or she be available for all home games with include nights, weekends, and holidays. Office responsibilities include creating proposals for potential clients, proof of performance reports for current clients, scheduling and tracking deliverables for current clients, and additional duties as necessary. Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office programs is required (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and a working knowledge of Access is preferred. Professionalism in-person, via email, and via phone is essential for success in this position due to the correspondence that the intern will have with various clients and professionals outside the organization. Recommended majors for this internship are Marketing, Business, Communications, and Public Relations.

2014 Internship - Information Technology - New York Mets (Flushing, NY)

Description:

NY Mets IT Summer Intern Program is designed to attract highly talented undergraduate students who want to acquire practical work experience relevant to IT.

 

General requirements:

  • Proficiency with fixing basic computer problems, installing software, and/or networking.

  • Currently pursuing a degree within Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Related Major. Business or other related majors may be applicable.

  • Proficiency with smartphones; Android, Apple, Blackberry, and/or Windows.

  • Excellent MS Office skills.

  • Interest in technology in general, and desire to learn more

  • Some knowledge of HTML/ web development is a plus.

  • Some knowledge of Mac OS is also a plus.

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at once.

  • Good organizational skills, we have a lot of tech equipment, and you'll have to know where all of it is.

  • Creative thinking abilities, not just following instructions, but coming up with solutions to unique problems on your own.

  • Must have own transportation to and from Citi Field.

 

General Responsibilities:

You'll be working with the entire NY Mets IT team to make sure everyone's technology-related needs are being met. This includes routine tech support, hardware configuration, new machine installation, and network maintenance.

When the team is on the road and during the off-season, a 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. work day is expected.  When the team is home, the hours may fluctuate depending on your supervisor’s needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Fall 2014 Internship - Venue Services - New York Mets (Flushing, NY)

Internship Summary:

The Venue Services department oversees all aspects of food & beverage, merchandise, memorabilia, promotions, on-site tenants, and inventory control.  From determining the price of a hot dog to negotiating with player agents for memorabilia agreements, Venue Services is involved in a vast amount of areas within the organization.  This internship will provide insight and inclusion with the majority of the department’s functions.

Day-To-Day Involvement: 

  • Citi Field food & beverage planning and operations

  • Citi Field merchandise planning and operations

  • Amazin’ Memorabilia program

  • Promotions planning and operations

  • Citi Field Fanwalk planning and operations

  • Citi Field tenant relations

  • Inventory control

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Must be at least a Junior in College; recent graduate preferred.

  • Background in Sports Management, Merchandise, Marketing, Management, Sales, and/or Hospitality Services

  • Must be able to work to the end of all Mets home games and other events/promotions as requested

  • Must be team-oriented, out-going, extremely motivated and able to work independently.

  • Professional demeanor with strong organizational, planning and communication skills. 

  • Must be extremely flexible and open to learn new skills.

  • Knowledge of MS Office software required, with emphasis on Excel, Word and PowerPoint.    

  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop
