Job Title:P&G Cincinnati MLB Urban Youth Academy Intern

Reports To:Urban Youth Academy Director, RCF                      

FLSA:Hourly, Non-Exempt 

Term:October 1, 2016 – May 1, 2017 (flexible)

Commitment: 25 hours per week

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for handling key day to day operations for the P&G Cincinnati MLB Urban Youth Academy (UYA) site and programs including but not limited to, program set up and execution, assistance with participant recruitment, site management, and participant tracking systems.
  • Responsible for recording, tracking and communicating UYA program attendance accordingly.
  • Oversees baseball/softball equipment donation program through the Reds Community Fund.
  • Gain a thorough understanding of, and assist in the execution of site/facility operations processes.
  • Assist in the recruiting of UYA program participants, coaches/instructors and volunteers.
  • Assist in maintaining UYA web information, social media and baseball/softball video programs.
  • Administrative duties will include managing the participant application process, reception desk processes, placing equipment/apparel orders, inventory organization & management, etc.
  • Assist with Reds Community Fund fundraising events throughout the season (as needed) which includes but is not limited to Opening Day Charity Block Party (TBD), Family Catch (TBD), and the Coldwell Banker West Shell Redlegs Run (TBD).

Qualifications:

  • Prior work experience in at least one business setting and one sports setting (preferred)
  • Have interest in sports business and have earned/are currently pursuing an undergraduate/graduate degree in a related area of study

Requirements:

  • Must have an available schedule that will allow the ability to work approximately 40 hours a week including nights, weekends & holidays during the period of October 1 - May 1, 2017.
  • Must have an outgoing, friendly personality and excellent communication skill, strong initiative, and high level of energy.
  • Must have good time management skills and present self in a professional manner with a passion for sports.
  • Must have the ability to handle and coordinate large groups of people in a secure and sensitive area.
  • Should have some experience working with kids, exhibiting an ability to be patient and understanding. (preferred)
  • Should have prior baseball/softball experience with a strong understanding of the fundamentals. (preferred)
  • Must have valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

  • This is a seasonal opportunity and no benefits will be provided
  • Seasonal staff members are paid a minimum wage of $8.10/hour

Work Environment:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment however each seasonal staff member will have responsibilities where the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.

Job Summary:

Position is responsible for assisting the Sr. Director of Event Presentation & Production and the Manager of Event Presentation with administrative duties. In addition, this position will assist the Event Presentation & Production (EPP) Department with events (planning, set-up/breakdown, etc.), participate in the brainstorming sessions, and assist in the development and implementation of promotional elements on gamedays as well as other duties as assigned by the Sr. Director and the Manager of Event Presentation.

Accountabilities:

• Develop/track public address announcements & promotional scripts
• Manage in-stadium host(s)
• Responsible for coordinating the execution of game-day duties that include pre-game ceremonies and in-stadium/in-game promotions
• Assist and help manage the Royals K Crew and Game Crew
• Develop and execute event presentation duties for annual special events throughout the year (i.e. FanFest,  Awards Night, Opening Day, etc.)
• Assist in executing pre-game ceremonies as well as in-game features
• Coordinate event logistics for Event Presentation & Production Department
• Set-up of promotional booths, table locations, signage, etc.
• Conduct industry research
• General office duties

Intern, Media Relations - New York Mets (Flushing, NY)

The Media Relations Internship will be a full-time opportunity to work alongside the rest of the Media Relations team in the New York Mets front office. The intern will provide support to the full-time members of the Media Relations Department. The intern will assist with the daily duties of the Department, which may include, but are not limited to the following responsibilities:

  • Daily Clips: Compiling and sending out a daily “clips” packet to all Mets front office employees and media members that cover the team. The packet includes all of that day’s daily newspaper articles about the Mets, Yankees and baseball in general, as well as any non-sports articles that mention the Mets, Citi Field and anything else that references the organization.
  • Game Notes: Will help compile parts of the daily games notes that are used by all media.
  • Video Clips:  Using a video service and their program, search video clips from news programs the day/night before and compile a video email of all Mets related stories.
  • Mets Magazine: Assist with writing and editing of our final game day publication.
  • Media Support: On game days will be responsible for setting up our press areas for home games.  Will issue daily credentials and staff the press gate. Must make sure the press box is set up properly: internet is working; game notes, stats, line-ups, bio pages, etc. are copied and available and televisions are tuned to the proper channel. After the game, will help distribute post-game notes, which are a recap of that day’s game. Will also assist the writers with any questions, research needs, or problems they may have.
  • Credentialing: For all home games, will be responsible for creating and distributing daily media credentials.
  • Parking: Will help compile and issue passes for the daily media parking list on game days.
  • Community Outreach: Assist our Community Outreach guaranteeing media coverage for all their events.
  • Media Guide: Help research and input information into our pre-season media guide for the upcoming season.  Will also fact check and proofread certain sections of the book.
  • Postseason Guide: Responsible for inputting information and proofreading our Year in Review publication. 
  • Off-Season Media/Charity Events: Assist in the planning of off-season fall/winter charity events. Will also assist in pitching different media off-season stories.
  • Office Support: Will also assist with the day-to-day functions of the department: phone coverage, filing, copying, etc.

Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate must have earned or is in the process of earning an undergraduate degree in Public Relations, Media Relations, Communications, Journalism, Sports Administration/Management, or a relevant major. 
  • The intern must be able to work nights and weekends, depending on what is requested by the Department Manager. 
  • Fluency in Spanish and English (bilingual) is strongly preferred.

Summary:

The Nationals Youth Baseball Academy is a 501(c)3 organization that uses the sports of baseball and softball to foster character development, academic achievement and improved health among youth from underserved communities in Washington DC. The Academy seeks a dedicated intern to assist with the continued build out of its development operations.

The right candidate will have an interest in advancement, non-profit management, project design and proposal / grant writing, and prospect research, outreach and communications. As the Academy is a relatively new venture, so too are the development operations of the Academy -- the intern will be part of a team putting together new systems, processes and policies that enhance the ability of the Academy to communicate its story to potential supporters and secure resources in support of its mission.

The Nationals are a military-friendly organization actively recruiting veterans and spouses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance of a prospect management database, including tracking outreach / communication to existing and potential funders.
  • Prospect research, including use of a robust research tool to help identify new sources of support; design and execute strategies to introduce the work of the Academy to these funders.
  • Generating letters, newsletters, updates, etc for supporter audiences and assist with distribution of those communication to key audiences.
  • Assist with gift processing, including recording, receipting and acknowledgement.

2017 Internship - Player Development - Washington Nationals (West Palm Beach, FL)

Summary:

Contribute to Washington Nationals Baseball Operations for the 2017 season as one of our highly valued interns. We’re looking for dynamic individuals who can contribute to our Player Development operation in our first season at the new complex in West Palm Beach, Florida. The internship runs from February 1st through November 1st, and will include exposure to Spring Training, Extended Spring Training, Gulf Coast League, and Instructional League. The position will work closely with Player Development executives, Minor League coaching staff, and professional baseball players. Decisions regarding the position will not be made until the Fall and Winter of 2016 and applicants being considered should not expect to be contacted before the end of the 2016 baseball season

The Player Development internship includes an emphasis on assignments related to the Nationals farm system and development of professional players. We value candidates with playing experience, familiarity with minor league baseball, and/or Spanish language skills.

  • Assist Minor League coaching staff with various projects including advance reports and player transactions
  • Compile and distribute daily and monthly reports for Baseball Operations

The Major League Operations internship includes assisting the Baseball Operations Department with day-to-day assignments along with long term projects centered on roster management, salary arbitration, transactions, and the economics of baseball. Highly advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills are strongly preferred, as are a degree in economics, statistics, or mathematics, work experience in finance or consulting, and a demonstrated interest and understanding of publicly available sabermetrics research and the economics of baseball.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage recurring tasks such as organizing roster boards, updating depth charts, and disseminating daily reports
  • Ad hoc data analysis projects
  • Review of new research from various external analytical sources
  • Support with general office work including mailings, guest interaction, document production and filing
  • Assist with major baseball events such as the amateur draft, trade deadline, and salary arbitration
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student of an accredited college or university and have completed a minimum of 1 semester or have recently graduated from an accredited college or university, or equivalent military experience.
  • Pursuing a degree or received a degree in Economics, Statistics, or Mathematics preferred.
  • Experience in Finance or Consulting preferred.
  • Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Available for the entire term of the Internship.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

2017 Internship - Advance Scouting - Washington Nationals (Washington, DC)

Summary:

Contribute to Washington Nationals Baseball Operations for the 2017 season as one of our highly valued interns. We’re looking for talented individuals who can contribute to the Nationals by specializing in work related to Advance Scouting. This internship is for the 2017 season and typically spans from Opening Day to November 1st. Decisions regarding the position will not be made until the Fall and Winter of 2016 and applicants being considered should not expect to be contacted before the end of the 2016 baseball season.

The Advance Scouting internship includes assisting the Advance Scouting department with preparing and organizing the Advance Report for Nationals’ opponents. This report provides information on opposing players and teams and requires attention to detail and the ability to work well under pressure. The position also works closely with video.

We’re looking for dynamic individuals who can contribute immediately to our front office in Washington, DC by specializing in work related to Research and Development. This internship is for the 2017 season and typically spans from Opening Day to November 1st. Decisions regarding the position will not be made until the Fall and Winter of 2016.

The Research & Development internship includes an emphasis on computer programming and data analysis. The intern’s main responsibility will be to assist the R&D department with input, cleaning, and processing of baseball data into proprietary databases. There will also be assignments that require statistical analysis on large volumes of baseball-related data. Candidates must have significant experience with R and SQL, as well as an interest in publicly available sabermetrics research and data science.
