2018 Baseball Video Scouting Internship

Position Overview

BIS is looking for highly motivated individuals with a desire to work in the baseball industry. Video Scouts will have a chance to make an immediate impression on the company. Each Video Scout will be collecting data that is directly used by BIS clients (including major league teams) for advance scouting and evaluation purposes. Not only will the Video Scouts become more familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of hundreds of amateur and professional players, but they will also learn the ins and outs of the baseball statistics industry.

Former Video Scouts have risen rapidly through Major League front offices after getting their start watching two to three games per day at BIS. In the words of one former Video Scout and current Vice President of Baseball Operations, “My summer at BIS was the best baseball experience of my life.” Major League teams frequently come to us for recommendations when they need to fill a position within their organization, and our top video scouts each year routinely land team internships and/or full-time jobs.

Responsibilities:

  • Score and pitch chart MLB, MiLB and amateur games using specialized computer software

  • Check the accuracy and validity of data

  • Prepare and analyze statistical data for delivery to customers

  • Assist with the production of the 2019 Bill James Handbook

  • Provide administrative support to the full-time staff

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of baseball and baseball scorekeeping

  • Ability to identify and differentiate between pitch types

  • Computer proficiency and the ability to quickly learn new software

  • High attention to detail

  • High school, college, or professional baseball playing experience is preferred

  • Must be able to work nights and weekends

  • Must be able to work out of our Coplay, PA office

  • Enrolled in or graduated from an accredited college or university

Time Frame:

  • BIS offers two unique start dates for this position. The first begins February 5th, 2018. It will last for a period of five months, with the possibility of extending further based on the Video Scout’s performance. The second begins on March 12th, 2018. This will last five to six months, again with a possibility of extending longer.

Compensation:

  • A starting base hourly rate of $7.75 and/or college course credit will be offered to each Video Scout

  • Each Video Scout will also be eligible for regular raises based on performance

  • There will also be opportunities to sign up to work overtime to earn extra income (opportunities will depend on work levels throughout the year)

Job Purpose:    This position is responsible for assisting with the administrative needs of the Human Resources department

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Human Resources team with the intern hiring process which includes posting positions online; generating offer letters; and administering new hire paperwork, background screens and motor vehicle reports.
  • Inform Director of HR of any discrepancies, issues or policy non-compliance that could result in termination.
  • Assist Human Resources Business Partner with coordination of the intern onboarding process.
  • Responsible for generating badges for all non-seasonal new hires.
  • Assist Seasonal Employee Relations Manager with seasonal recruitment and hiring.
  • Assist Benefits Manager with open enrollment communication and paperwork.
  • Conduct audits on personnel and benefits files.
  • Responsible for keeping files and records up to date.
  • Carry out administrative work involving the HR functions as needed and maintain related records to ensure compliance as required with federal and state employment laws and regulations.

Experience, Education and Licensure:

  • Currently pursuing, or have achieved, an undergraduate or graduate degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and internet applications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Good grammar, voice and diction.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing situations as necessary and resolve customer service issues in real time.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary Focus:

  • Assist in the execution of game day duties including, but not limited to: assisting with pregame and in-game ceremonies and promotions, assisting with the load-in and load-out of ballpark entertainment, escorting mascots and staffing the Consumer Clubs, Fan Zone Carnival Games and Reds Authentics locations. Pregame activities include, but are not limited to: escorting ceremonies, first pitches, national anthem performers, honor guards, game ball deliveries, captains of the game and the Reds Heads Run-On. In-game activities include, but are not limited to: executing “Play Ball” Kid, Cincinnati Bell Hometown Hero, Skyline Chili Shuffle and Skyline Step Up to the Mic (additional sponsor related promotions may be added as the season approaches). Other tasks may include assisting with fan giveaways and prize redemptions, helping with special promotions, as well as additional escort duties when special guests are present.
  • Assist Corporate Sales Fulfillment with tracking sponsor media and tickets and providing assistance with Corporate Sales events and proof of performance packages. Events include, but are not limited to: Corporate Sales Golf Outing, Corporate Batting Practices and Sponsorship Games, Batting Practice Viewings and other sponsor-related events.

Other Areas of Responsibility:

  • Assist with the Reds Rover field-marketing program throughout the season at various events including, but not limited to: set-up and breakdown, handing out team information, promoting team initiatives and other promotional items, working with the team mascots and other Reds staff on an event-by-event basis, conducting field promotions and register-to-win contests and cooperating with Reds fans of all ages.
  • Assist with Reds events during the season including, but not limited to: Reds Community Fund Charity Block Party, Kids Opening Day Block Party, Redlegs Run, Season Ticket Members events and concerts.
  • Assist Fan Zone Carnival Games with duties including but not limited to: delivering top-notch customer service to all fans including answering questions and resolving issues, fully understanding the rules and prizes associated with each game and be able to explain them to participants, handling cash transactions and keeping games and displays organized, neat, and clean at all times
  • Assist Reds Authentics with duties including but not limited to: item inventory and distribution.

Qualifications:

  • Staff members should have prior work experience in at least one business setting and one sports setting
  • Staff members should be interested in going into sports business and should have or are pursuing an undergrad/graduate degree in a related area of study

Requirements:

  • Must have an available schedule that will allow the ability to work nights, weekends and holidays during the time period of March 23, 2018 – October 2018

Commitment: 30-40 hours/week. Hours will also include nights, weekends and holidays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary Focus:

  • Assist in preparation for the 2018 season, coordinating the Reds Rover program and handling general administrative duties.

    o   Game day preparation responsibilities include, but are not limited to: putting together all forms and supplies needed for each in-game promotion, following up with in-game promotion winners, coordinating all scoreboard messages and scoreboard memories processes, assisting with entertainment for special games, coordinating Fan Appreciation Day and assisting with Kroger Fan Zone entertainment.  

    o   Coordinating the Reds Rover program includes, but is not limited to: researching events to attend, being proactive in scheduling appearances, driving the marketing vehicle throughout the area to various events while managing set-up and breakdown, handing out team information, promoting team initiatives and other promotional items; working with the team mascot(s) and other Reds staff on event-by-event basis; conducting field promotions and register-to-win contests, working with Reds fans of all ages; fulfilling prize distribution after events, coordinating tickets and mailings to contest winners; sending out post-event questionnaires to compile feedback and research; assisting in design and content of Reds Rover homepage on Cincinnati Reds website; maintaining vehicle with regular service checks.
     
  • Assist Corporate Partnerships Fulfillment by keeping track of winners of promotions to create proof of performance packages and by providing assistance with Corporate Partnership events. Events include, but are not limited to: Bark in the Park, batting practice viewings, Corporate Partnerships Golf Outing, Corporate Partnerships batting practices and games, Northern Kentucky Night & Reds Racing Night.

Other Areas of Responsibility:

  • Office duties will include, but are not limited to: answering phone calls and emails, taking Scoreboard Message/Birthday Package orders, assisting with Scoreboard Message system, fulfilling Fan Pack requests, all game-day preparations, data entry and additional miscellaneous office duties as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparation and execution of special events at Reds Development Complex and Goodyear Ballpark
  • Answer and transfer incoming calls
  • Greet and assist visitors in a professional manner
  • Assist with VIP tours of the Cincinnati Reds Development Complex
  • Distribution of newspapers and mail to departments
  • Transportation to and from airports/hotels/etc. for Reds personnel
  • Potential to perform in mascot suit or to escort mascot performer at Ballpark and community appearances
  • Receive, log, distribute, process USPS/UPS/FedEx packages
  • Stock general office supplies and refreshments throughout the complex
  • Assist in keeping the complex organized, orderly and clean
  • Assist multiple Reds personnel/departments with various other assignments
  • Assist in other operational, administrative and customer service duties as needed

 Qualifications:

  • Prior work experience in at least one business setting and one sports setting preferred. An interest in going into sports business. Should have, or be pursuing, an undergrad/graduate degree in a related area of study.

Requirements:

  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • The ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills, good grammar, voice, and diction, strong interpersonal skills and a team oriented spirit to provide exceptional service
  • Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and be a self-starter

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Respond in a timely and professional fashion to the donation letters/inquiries.
  • Office duties will include, but are not limited to, providing administrative assistance to Director of Community Relations, answering phone calls, data entry, program and event mailings and additional miscellaneous office duties.
  • Projects and program coordination with direction from the Director of Community Relations, including MLB community outreach and club-related programs and events.
  • Management of complimentary ticket programs including the Commissioner’s Community Initiative.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • The intern must present themselves in a professional manner both in-person and through written communication with fans of all ages, sponsors, game day guests and on occasion, players.
  • Must have the ability to handle and coordinate large groups of people in a secure and sensitive area.
  • Attention to details, discretion and organization skills are a must.
  • Must have a flexible work schedule that will allow intern to work days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Work Environment:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment however employee may have “game-day” responsibilities where the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.

The Cincinnati Reds Ticket Department is seeking several dedicated and team oriented individuals to fill a variety of roles. Interns will be assigned an Office or Game Day position within one of the following departments: Season Sales, Premium Sales, Group Sales, Single Game & Consumer Club Sales, or Customer Service. Interns will partner and assist sales and service staff to meet and exceed expectations. Internships start as early as February 2018 and will run through September 2018.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Gain knowledge of products and overall ticketing business.
  • Responsible for working on a computerized ticketing system.
  • Responsible for providing an exceptional experience for every guest that visits Great American Ball Park through various contact points.
  • Generate reports from ticketing system and Microsoft Excel.
  • Conduct inbound and outbound touch points via phone calls and emails.
  • Mail ticket orders and product information.
  • Provide a high level of service for Ticket and Consumer Club clients.
  • Assist with planning and staffing of events.
  • Perform in-seat visits, assist with guest services, and staff VIP Ticket Concierge.
  • Be knowledgeable of all aspects of Ticket packages and Consumer Clubs memberships.
  • Keep Ticket and Consumer Clubs locations in the ballpark clean, organized, and adequately stocked.
  • Track and record daily sales and payments.
  • Execute sales inside the ballpark on game days.
  • Must be attentive to guests’ needs, have full knowledge of all policies, services, and facility locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Currently pursuing, or have achieved, an undergraduate or graduate degree in Sports Management, Business or related field preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and internet applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Good grammar, voice and diction.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing situations as necessary and resolve guest issues in real time.

Interns will work closely with department staff to develop comprehensive sponsorship proposal and recap presentations, execute the elements of current sponsorship agreements and coordinate sponsor hospitality. Data entry into department’s CRM system will be a daily focus among other tasks. The Washington Nationals Corporate Partnerships Intern will gain a broad understanding of sports partnerships while assisting in various activities related to both sponsorship activation and sales. Job Requirements

Individuals must exhibit a professional appearance and character as well as the ability to work well with co-workers and supervisors. We will offer a minimum of 40 hours per week. This position requires working days, nights, weekends and holidays for either Nationals games or non-baseball events.
