*** Media Relations *** The Media Relations intern will deal exclusively with the media, both for internal and external purposes. The selected individual will sort through all newspaper sites, package all pertinent clips, and distribute it throughout the office or to media personnel. This intern will also run the minor league reports and recap all the games from the previous day. Other duties include running stat packets for media and internal use. This intern will set up the press box for media personnel prior to the games, as well as pass out media credentials on game days. This intern must be proficient in Word, Excel, and PageMaker or InDesign and be able to work all games (which may include day, night, weekend and holiday games). This position is recommended for candidates with a background in Communications, particularly Journalism, Public Relations and Marketing. This intern will assume additional roles on an as-needed basis.

*** Graphics *** The Graphics intern will work closely with Marketing and other departments to create a wide range of print graphics including but not limited to: ballpark signage, promotional items, brochures, posters, flyers, postcards, and invitations. In addition, they will expand their knowledge in creating print ads and interact with various print publications uploading to their FTP sites and performing other functions on an as need basis. Candidates need to have working knowledge of Adobe Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop on a MAC operating system. With that knowledge the intern will learn to handle multiple projects under flexible and extreme deadlines while building their portfolio. Strong understanding of the printing process and web design is a plus.

***Special Events*** The Special Events intern will work with the Special Events/Conference Center Department to learn about the execution of all non-baseball events and meetings held at Minute Maid Park. Our events business is wide-reaching and includes business meetings, galas, trade shows, corporate events such as batting practices and softball games, holiday parties, and personal events such as weddings, receptions, birthday parties and Bar Mitzvahs. This internship provides the opportunity for the selected candidate to learn through observation and execution how a Special Events department functions. The internship requires an inquisitive, responsible self-starter who enjoys a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. This person must be a strong communicator with above average computer skills. The intern will learn about all aspects of the execution of event operations from administrative tasks such as contract generation, filing, answering inquiries, disseminating information, and taking detailed messages as well as database upkeep. This intern will have many opportunities to network with and work with many departments within the Astros organization, as well as our event execution partners, and with Astros corporate and social clients. Pre-game and in-game activation elements require that he or she be available for all home games with include nights, weekends, and holidays. *** Guest Services *** The Guest Services intern will have the opportunity to see firsthand how a successful Guest Services department within a large, complex, and diverse organization such as the Houston Astros functions. This intern plays an integral role in ballpark operations on game days and helps us oversee our staff of approximately 250 ushers, ticket takers, and ballpark supervisors. The selected individual will help us manage various aspects such as lost and found and guest relations. You may help by maintaining a log or you may respond to messages and inquiries left by guests. Other tasks may include responding to fan feedback emails, updating staff personnel files, or generating staffing sheets. The Guest Services intern will learn how to effectively staff for conference center needs, such as tours, parties and other events. The Guest Services intern will have many opportunities to regularly network with a variety of departments within the organization as well as external business partners. Candidates should have strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrate initiative, and the interest and ability to work extended hours and weekends depending on the Astros game schedule or our events schedule. *** Groundskeeping *** The chosen Groundskeeping intern will learn the ins and outs of field operations, turf management and the overall maintenance of the field and ballpark grounds ensuring the surface is game and camera-ready. This may include stripping the infield, keeping the dirt moist, learning fertilizer calculations, patching infield holes, leveling home plate, edging the infield, and many other related duties. This intern will also assist with the maintenance of all equipment as well as help set up pre-game activities such as batting practice and other non-baseball needs. INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:
To provide a student or recent student with the opportunity to learn about the sports industry at the Major League Baseball level. Candidate will gain valuable experience in the day to day operation of a corporate sales team. Candidate will learn how to help maximize sales opportunites and assist in the service, execution, and fulfillment of all partnership agreements.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Coordinate ticket requests internally with the ticket office
  • Coordinate season-long fulfillment projects such as enter-to-win contests
  • Attend Homestand meetings and other departmental meetings as needed
  • Assist with on-site events such as youth clinics, hospitality events, etc.
  • Work with client services team to prepare season-end recap reports

The Graphic Design internship is paid hourly in the program and will work 20-29 regular business hours per week during their internship, which will last from January 2015 to July 2015.  Listed below is a brief description of the internship:

Overview:

The Graphic Design Intern will be responsible for assisting in the development of collateral, advertising, printed materials, and web graphics for the Angels. An emphasis in graphic design is required.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have or be working on a college degree. Related experience of one to two years’ working in an in-house design department or agency is preferred but not required. Advance knowledge of the following is required: MacOSX, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Knowledge of Flash, Dreamweaver, and HTML is a plus. The successful candidate will possess outstanding time management, organizational skills, and excellent communication skills. The qualified candidate will also have the ability to successfully interact with all levels of personnel from senior executives to entry level employees.

2015 Internship - Media Relations - New York Mets (Flushing, NY)

Summary:

The Media Relations internship will be a full-time opportunity to work alongside the rest of the Media Relations team in the New York Mets' front office. The intern will provide support to the full-time members of the Media Relations Department. The intern will assist with the daily duties of the Department, which may include, but are not limited to the following responsibilities:

  • Daily Clips: compiling and sending out a daily “clips” packet to all Mets front office employees and media members that cover the team. The packet includes all of that day’s daily newspaper articles about the Mets, Yankees and baseball in general, as well as any non-sports articles that mention the Mets, Citi Field and anything else that references the organization.
  • Game Notes: will help compile parts of the daily games notes that are used by all media.
  • Video Clips:  using a video service and their program, search video clips from news programs the day/night before and compile a video email of all Mets related stories.
  • Mets Magazine: assist with writing and editing of our final game day publication.
  • Media Support: on game days will be responsible for setting up our press areas for home games.  Will issue daily credentials and staff the press gate. Must make sure the press box is set up properly: phone lines are working, phones are out; internet is working; game notes, stats, line-ups, bio pages, etc. are copied and available. After the game, will help distribute post-game notes, which are a recap of that day’s game. Will also assist the writers with any questions, research needs, or problems they may have.
  • Credentialing: for all home games, will be responsible for creating and distributing daily media credentials.
  • Parking: will help compile and issue passes for the daily media parking list on game days.
  • Community Outreach: assist our Community Outreach guaranteeing media coverage for all their events.
  • Media Guide: help research and input information into our pre-season media guide for the upcoming season.  Will also fact check and proofread certain sections of the book.
  • Postseason Guide: responsible for inputting information and proofreading our Year in Review publication. 
  • Off-Season Media/Charity Events: assist in the planning of off-season fall/winter (pre-Christmas) charity events. Will also assist in pitching different media off-season stories.
  • Office Support: will also assist with the day-to-day functions of the department: phone coverage, filing, copying, etc.

Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate must have earned or is in the process of earning an undergraduate degree in Public Relations, Media Relations, Communications, Journalism, Sports Administration/Management, or a relevant major. 
  • The intern must be able to work some nights and weekends, depending on what is requested by the Department Manager. 
  • This is a paid position that will last approximately one year. A full-time schedule should be expected once the 2015 season begins.

2014/15 Internship - Metropolitan Hospitality - New York Mets (Flushing, NY)

Summary:

Provides event and administrative support to Event Manager - Metropolitan Hospitality, on various types of events including, corporate and social functions, trade shows, seminars, or any other type of special events. The internship is a paid position, and will span from November through December of this year. The intern should expect to work on a full-time schedule (35-40 hours/week).


Responsibilities:

  • Assist in executing all non-game day events.
  • General office duties: Draft letters, filing, mailings, faxing, copying, organize binders. Ability to, if asked: Answer phones, make travel arrangements, maintain calendar, etc.
  • Type and organize event documents (Event notes, post event notes, contracts, daily updates, floor plans and maps, etc.)
  • Create checklists for all events and fulfill checklist items.
  • Help oversee department access, parking passes, and guest directions.
  • Maintain and update client/partner mailing and email lists.
  • Assist with research and possible development of events at Citi Field.
  • Create agendas and notes for weekly and monthly meetings.
  • Light manual labor including carrying boxes, pushing hand trucks, and setting up directional signage.
  • Assist with all functions of metropolitan hospitality.

Requirements:

  • Completed or currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of hospitality experience preferred.
  • Able to work through the end of all Metropolitan Hospitality events.
  • Professional demeanor and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Creative, detailed-oriented “people person” capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Team-oriented, extremely motivated and able to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office software, with an emphasis on Excel and Word.

Web Developer Intern, Baseball Operations - New York Yankees (Bronx, NY)

Description:
The Web Developer Intern will have the opportunity to get hands-on programming experience and insight into the operations of the front office of a professional sports franchise.

Responsibilities:
• Responsible for assisting with the on-going development of baseball operations web-based applications that are used by senior baseball personnel
• Assist the Baseball Operations department on projects including: developing reports and player analysis tools, integrating video with data, migrating existing applications to newer technology, writing stored procedures and other database objects in SQL Server, loading and normalizing data from various sources

Qualifications:

• Must have a formal background in Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience
• Significant experience in the following areas:

1.  ASP.NET MVC development in C# using nHibernate or Entity Framework

2. Development of web services using WebAPI

3. AngularJS

4. CSS3, Bootstrap, and cross-browser compatibility

• Candidate must be proficient in SQL.

SUMMARY

The Baseball Operations Department of the Pittsburgh Pirates is seeking enthusiastic individuals with a high degree of ambition and professionalism to fill an exciting position within the Pirates organization.  Due to the value and responsibility of this position, the ideal candidate will be mature, responsible, and knowledgeable.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

- Charting (logging pitch type, location, and event for each pitched play) approximately 2 recorded games per day. The charting will be performed using a video scouting computer program.

- Completing baseball research reports on varies topics and putting together statistical spread sheets.

- Copying and distributing scouting reports, data reports, and statistical information to players and coaching staff. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS 

The Pirates are looking for interns with prior baseball experience which may consist of:

*Working within a baseball front office on any level.

*Playing baseball on the collegiate or professional level.

*Coaching baseball on a high school or higher level.

In addition we are looking for applicants with:

-Knowledge of BATS software

-A strong attention to detail

-An ability to work flexible hours during the length of the season

-Willing to relocate

*Internship (Business Operations) - Tampa Bay Rays (St. Petersburg, FL)

The Tampa Bay Rays Business Operations Intern will assist in providing an outstanding experience for all fans attending baseball games at Tropicana Field. Primary responsibilities will include developing and operating the Rays authentication program, leading the high school summer internship program, and assisting with various projects and departments.

In fulfilling this responsibility, duties may include, but are not limited to:

Business Operations:

  • Assist with operation of Rays authentication program including inventory, sales reports, distribution and formulating new ideas.
  • Manage team of 12 high school interns in Facilitation of Leadership to Youth (F.L.Y) program.
  • Assist with social media programming on all Rays accounts.
  • Assist with coordination of interdepartmental projects and meetings.
  • Assist with various special projects as needed.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

·   Positive and friendly personality

·   Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

·   Computer skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint

·   Knowledge of baseball

Intern, Community Relations (10 month internship) - Washington Nationals (Washington, DC)

Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Community Relations, the Intern, Community Relations is responsible for providing administrative and operational support to the Washington Nationals Community Relations department.

Duration: January through mid-November.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the fulfillment and distribution of autographed memorabilia and tickets to community groups.
  • Assist in the implementation, tracking and reporting of all tickets donated through the Community Ticket Grant program.
  • Receive and route incoming mail, phone, and e-mail requests, responding when appropriate.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of Community Relations events and programming.
  • Assist with gameday programming including meet and greets, VIP game-day experiences, pregame ceremonies, and in-game activations.
  • Join Community Relations staff in meetings with community and civic groups.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Community Relations department.

Requirements:

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as an under graduate or graduate student of an accredited college or university and have completed a minimum of 1 semester or have graduated from an accredited college or university within the last 6 months.
  • Graduate student with coursework in Sport Management or Community Outreach preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions

  • Able to work 34 hours a week, including nights and weekends based on the game schedule.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet Explorer) required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Must have the ability to appropriately handle challenging situations and coordinate large groups of people with customer service in mind.

The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit and must lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.
