Team Volunteer - Australian Baseball League (Australia, AU)

Description

The Australian Baseball League (ABL) is Australia’s national professional baseball competition, and will launch its 4th season in 2013-14.

A landmark partnership between Major League Baseball, the Australian Baseball Federation and the Australian Sports Commission, the ABL features a 45-game season and aims to provide fun, safe entertainment for the entire family at great value by becoming the most accessible sporting code in Australia. The 6 teams consist of the Adelaide Bite, Brisbane Bandits, Canberra Cavalry, Melbourne Aces, Perth Heat and Sydney Blue Sox.

Australia has produced over 350 players who have signed contracts with MLB clubs. In addition MLB sends some of their most valuable non-Australian prospects to the ABL with the aim of enhancing their performance and increasing their chances of making it to the show. As a result 28 of 30 MLB clubs were represented in the ABL in 2012-13 alone. Along with MLB, the ABL has on-going partnerships with Asia’s premier baseball leagues such as Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) and the Korean Baseball Organisation (KBO), bringing Asian talent to the ABL as well.

The ABL has grown and developed quickly off the field as well in the first three seasons. The league now boosts TV coverage for the ABL All-Star Game and ABL Championship Series that reaches over 50 countries, in addition to a weekly national TV Show on Fox Sports.

The Volunteer Position
