Special Events Intern - St. Louis Cardinals (St. Louis, MO)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This internship is scheduled to begin concurrent with the beginning of the fall semester, approximately mid August 2014.

Summary of Responsibilities:
To assist the Special Events team in selling, coordinating, and managing the execution of internal and external special events.  The primary goal of this position is to learn how a Special Events department is operated and to implement that knowledge in their chosen field of education.  Currently the department hosts over 400 events and photo sessions per year.  This position must be available for days, nights, and weekends and the candidate must be eligible to receive school credit upon completion of the internship.
 
Essential Functions of the Job:
• Assist in both the production of events and the sales and marketing of special events venues at Busch Stadium for non-game day events.
• Communicate with current and prospective clients by e-mail and phone and be involved in planning small client meetings.
• Support the department coordinators in event production and will serve as onsite staff at many events.
• Manage the department’s photo library and other electronic resources.
• May conduct research projects to gain market insight.
 
Education and Experience Preferred:
• Current enrollment in an accredited program at a College or University required with a degree emphasis in Hospitality Management, Public Relations, at least Junior year.
• Experience with direct client contact and data analysis.
• Events or sales/marketing experience.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
• Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills.
• Ability to stand on feet and walk comfortably for long periods of time.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
 
Minimum Education and Experience:

Summary of Responsibilities:
Hands-on fulfillment of the day-to-day operations of all aspects of the Cardinals Authentics retail operation including management and supervision of associates, in-stadium store sales, BPV store sales, on-line sales and monthly auction sales on a year-round basis to achieve and exceed sales goals as established by the Club.

Essential Functions of the Job:
• Manage store(s) operations on a day-to-day basis including, but not limited to:
o Responsible for receiving, processing, and preparing game-used, authentic, and other inventory for retail sale. Stocking store with inventory daily.
o Responsible directing and supervising sales associates in maintaining store merchandise displays with proper store inventory as well as in cleaning store floor and fixtures daily.
o Responsible for opening and closing procedures as appropriate, managing POS cash as appropriate and maintaining inventory controls to minimize loss.
o Responsible for implementation of sales promotions.
• Responsible for processing sales and completing transactions of all daily on-line orders received including engraved bats and pre-ordered bases as well as monthly auction orders through the POS system and execute order fulfillment (shipping).
• Maintain and grow the two Cardinals Authentics customer databases (mailing addresses and e-mail addresses).
• Handle all telephone inquiries regarding current inventories, process telephone sales orders and process all telephone orders and execute order fulfillment (shipping).
• Provide excellent customer service in conjunction with the established policies and procedures of the St. Louis Cardinals and Cardinals Authentics.
• Supervise staff during days, nights, and/or events as applicable.

Education and Experience Preferred:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field preferred.
• 2-3 years experience in retail operations, or combination of education and experience.
• 2+ years supervisory experience, preferred
• Knowledge and appreciation of MLB and St. Louis Cardinals history and the Sports Memorabilia business.
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (Version 2.0).
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, in particular working with Excel.
• Experience with electronic web-based commerce and/or mail-order operations.
• Experience in the use of social media outlets.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• General knowledge of Baseball.
• Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills.

Minimum Education and Experience:
• Associates Degree in Business or related field preferred.
• 1 year experience in retail operations, or combination of education and experience.
• 1+ years of supervisory experience
• Familiarity and experience with POS and Inventory Control systems.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, in particular Excel.
• Familiarity with electronic web-based commerce and/or mail-order operations.
• Knowledge of social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• General knowledge of Baseball.
• Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills.
