Spring Training 2015 Internship - Ballpark Operations - Goodyear Ballpark (Goodyear, AZ)

Goodyear Ballpark and Recreational Complex is the Spring Training and player development home of the Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds. Outside of Spring Training, the facility hosts the City of Goodyear's annual signature events and is available for private rentals including corporate gatherings, graduations, weddings, tournaments, arts & crafts fairs, concerts and more.

The Ballpark team is looking for outgoing, enthusiastic individuals who possess a strong work ethic, a positive attitude and desire to learn.

Internships are available in the following areas for the 2015 Spring Training season:

  • Ballpark Operations (2)
  • Corporate Partnerships (1)
  • Ticket Operations (1)
  • Marketing & Creative Services (3)

Examples of responsibilities for all internships:

  • Participating in the selection, interviewing, hiring and training of seasonal staff and volunteers
  • Participating in conceptual meetings regarding game day logistics, ticketing, marketing and sponsorship
  • Assisting with development and execution of game day promotions and sponsorship activations
  • Assisting with preparation and execution of events such as Fantasy Camp, Season Ticket Holder Appreciation Days, Fan Fest, Autograph Days, Catch on the Field and end of season staff party
  • Developing and participating in Promotions Team activities aimed at generating awareness of Spring Training (i.e. distributing pocket schedules, posters and other collateral items to local businesses, facilitating mascot appearances at schools and area events, staffing information booths)
  • Gathering fan data through in-park surveys

By the end of the internship, each intern will have gained hands-on experience in ballpark and ticket office operations, group ticket sales, corporate partnerships, community relations, customer service, game day production, event planning, marketing and social media.

Ballpark Operations Internship
The Ballpark Operations intern will assist in the overall planning and execution of a successful Spring Training season. In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, this intern will:

  • Maintain staff and/or volunteer contact lists and schedules
  • Support operations staff through communication to event staff, volunteers, vendors and potential clients
  • Set up/break down game day events and activities
  • Maintain equipment inventory and coordinate maintenance in preparation for and during the season

Requirements:

  • 3.0 GPA or higher working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree in Sports Marketing, Sports Management, Sports Facility Management or related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative and resourceful problem-solver
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Must pass background check
  • Must be able to relocate to the Goodyear, AZ area and provide own housing and transportation

Dates: 1/5/15 through 4/10/15. (Must be able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings, in addition to regular work week.)

Salary: Unpaid. Interns are not entitled to a job at the conclusion of the internship.

The Corporate Partnerships intern will assist in the management, activation and servicing of corporate partnerships. In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, this intern will:

  • Assist with generating sponsorship leads, contracts and fulfilling sponsorship elements
  • Assist with generating leads for group tickets
  • Assist with planning and executing sponsor-related events (mixer, sponsor appreciation, etc.)

Requirements:

  • 3.0 GPA or higher working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree in Sports Marketing, Sports Management or related field

Marketing & Creative Services Internship
The Marketing & Creative Services intern will assist with a variety of tasks related to the branding and promotion of Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds Spring Training. In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, this intern will:

  • Develop social media content and promotions 
  • Assist in developing and coordinating the production of the Spring Training souvenir program and marketing collateral
  • Capture events and activities through digital media and maintain digital media library
  • Coordinate pregame ceremonies and game day presentation including National Anthem performances, video board content and music
  • Coordinate marketing outreach efforts including mascot appearances, event booths, etc.

Requirements:

  • 3.0 GPA or higher working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree in Sports Marketing, Graphic Design, Advertising or related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative and resourceful!
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram 
  • Photography experience a plus
  • Must pass background check
  • Must be able to relocate to the Goodyear, AZ area and provide own housing and transportation

  • Provide unique, detailed customer service to all current and potential ticket purchasers
  • Assist with season, group and individual ticket sales 
  • Provide direction to volunteers on game days
  • Assist with end of day and seasonal reports for Indians and Reds executives

Requirements:

  • 3.0 GPA or higher working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree in Sports Marketing, Sports Management or related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative and resourceful problem-solver
  • Valid driver’s license
